The Pink Agave Hack That Fixed Our Least Favourite Virgin Voyages Restaurant

Hot take, and I think we might be alone here: Pink Agave is our least favourite restaurant on Virgin Voyages. We LOVE Mexican food, so it pains me to say it, but between cold plates, overcooked meat and allergens getting ignored, it’s let us down more than once.

So why are we telling you to go anyway

Well partially because so many people have told us it’s their favourite restaurant onboard. I don’t think it’s a case of being fussy but it could well be a run of bad luck.

Anyway, onto my masterpiece. Somewhere in the middle of all those disappointing mains, we found the one thing at Pink Agave that’s never once let us down, and it isn’t even on the menu as its own dish. It’s a build your own.

Order the Esquites (grilled corn, spicy aioli and lime), the Guacamole (pomegranate seeds, jalapeño and totopos, it comes with tortilla chips & I always ask for extra), and a protein, we usually go for the Cochinita Pibil (the achiote-marinated smoked pork) or the Bistec Marinero en Escabeche (ribeye), though the Enchilada de Pollo or Camaron Amarillo shrimp both work too. Tip the lot together into one bowl and give it a mix. What you get is the best mega chips and dip we’ve had on any ship, or, dare I say, on land, and it comes together in about thirty seconds.

Be bold, ask for extra totopos, and live your best life.

The best bit is what it costs you

Nothing extra. Everything above is included in your Voyage Fare, no specialty dining charge, so this is a free stomach lining pre-drink perfect girl dinner. Add a margarita off Pink Agave’s tequila and mezcal list to your bar tab while you’re there. They’ve done me dirty with a cold entrée more than once, but they have never once made me a bad drink.

Final Verdict

5 out of 5, worth it. Not for the mains, order those at your own risk, but for this one build that turns Pink Agave’s best small plates into something genuinely great. If you’ve been burned by a Pink Agave dinner before, this is how you go back without the risk.
